I love pilates. A few months ago I called Shelby. I was at a low point in my life, having been diagnosed with health issues, I knew I needed to make some big changes. Feeling very intimidated by the gym, she promised me that Studio Six was the place for me. (She also promised I wouldn’t sweat but I won’t hold that against her!) After the very first sessions I knew I loved it. My body has changed in ways that I never thought possible. I feel strong and love seeing the definition in my muscles. And the great news is that I have lost weight, improved my health and become a Pilates super fan. I can’t say enough about Shelby and Brooke at Studio Six, they have literally changed my life.
First let me say..if you are looking for a pilates studio with an amazing instructor..look no more! From the very first meeting with Shelby, it was impressive how knowledgeable she was about the body and pilates. I was recommended by a physical therapist and osteopath to find a good instructor on the reformer…and do it forever! I came to her with major neck issues, so I have definitely been a challenge for this sweet girl! She has worked slowly with all my “special needs” and has taught me to use my body so differently…what a difference! Whether you are in great shape or have limitations, like myself, this is a beautiful studio with a tranquil setting…Shelby is a gem…you will fall in love with her fresh spirit!
As I have grown older my body has lost strength and stability, making even everyday activities more difficult. I have also struggled with neck, hip, and low back pain due to scoliosis. At first I approached theses challenges with supplements, chiropractic, physical therapy and therapeutic massage, but nothing worked long term. At some point I realized I had to get serious about getting strong and staying strong if I wanted to maintain my active lifestyle. Pilates is a precise discipline that targets muscles I didn’t even know I had! I didn’t really realize how important a strong core is to overall health. My entire body feels different- stronger, taller, coordinated and balanced. The best part for me is that the principals I learn in Pilates carry over into every part of my life. Whether I’m climbing into the attic, working in the garden, riding my bike or waterskiing, I am aware of my core and my breathing. I have learned to use it for stability. strength and protection. I have almost no pain, no limitations and I no longer fear injury. I will never be without Pilates! I has changed the quality of my life.
I began my Pilates journey with instructor Shelby at Studio Six February of this year. I began with very limited knowledge of Pilates and unknown expectations. Shelby walked me through the basics of Pilates teaching me that my strength comes from my core and breathing through each movement. Shelby was patient and encouraging throughout the process. Over the past four months I have strengthened my core and entire body helping to relieve my aches and pains from scoliosis. When I started, due to my unaligned hips and scoliosis, my hips had limited movement almost frozen in place. Pilates has created flexibility in my back and hips helping to make normal movements much easier. I have had amazing physical benefits, but what I am most grateful for are the mental benefits. Shelby believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. I would say “there is NO WAY I can do that”, but Shelby would tell me that I was strong enough. I focused on her belief until I finally came to the point where I believed in myself. This is the first exercise program have stuck with because of all of the amazing benefits. I would highly recommend Studio Six. Take a couple of hours for yourself every week. Your health is worth it and Pilates is an outstanding way to improve it.
