Hello all! In 2012 I was working full time for UC Davis and didn’t seem to have the time or energy I wanted to spend time with my family doing anything beyond the day to day mundane routine of surviving. My daughter seemed to be growing up overnight and I longed to be home more with her. So, after 13 years, my husband and I decided it was time for a life change. I quit my job and started working part time for the school district. A little less than a year later I was given an amazing opportunity to begin an apprenticeship with Shelby at Studio Six learning the Pilates method. This changed my life forever. I had always desired to explore Pilates beyond the “at home” Mat videos I had done. I enjoyed the way I felt afterwards, but didn’t realize the true magnitude of what Pilates was capable of doing. Since learning the method, I can now use my core properly, which has given me the strength and stability I have always craved. I am now PMA certified and love continuing to learn new ways to better my practice. Teaching Pilates has given me a confidence in myself that I never thought I could have. My goal now is to build the same confidence and awareness in our clients by passionately sharing my knowledge of anatomy and body mechanics. I feel this gives you the lifelong power to help make smart choices for your body in and out of the studio. Pilates has forever changed the way I think about myself and how I move and I am so thankful to have the opportunity to share it with others. I truly enjoy helping people achieve their goals through the Pilates method and love watching the difference it makes in their lives.
Hello all! I have been teaching Pilates for 8 years and have been certified through the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) for 7 years. I was first introduced to Pilates when I was 17. I was searching for something that would help my achy body. I have scoliosis and very loose connective tissue in my joints, causing my joints to be very unstable. For a 17 year old girl, I was experiencing way too much discomfort on a daily basis, I knew I had to get strong. Unfortunately, I was not given the gift of athleticism, more like the gift of awkwardly uncoordinated! I never felt confident in what my body could accomplish until I tried Pilates. It changed my life. I became strong, confident and coordinated. Pilates taught me how to use my mind to control my body, and by doing that there are few limits to what you can do. After experiencing such amazing results through the Pilates Method, I knew I wanted to teach it. I wanted to give this gift to others, and so I began my apprenticeship. In the last 7 years I have taught Pilates, studied Pilates, married the love of my life, and had two children. All of which have made my teaching career more well rounded. Through having two children of my own I have developed a passion for pre-natal and post-natal Pilates. I continually learn at seminars and conferences to keep up with this ever-growing industry, so that I can be well equipped to teach anyone and everyone. That is the beauty of Pilates; It truly is for every body! I welcome you personally to Studio Six and look forward to providing for you what the Pilates Method has given to me.
